About this print
Celebrate the vibrant splendour of John James Audubon’s Carolina Parrot, a dazzling jewel from his famed Birds of America series, published between 1827 and 1838 as Plate 26. This life-sized, hand-coloured engraving, part of the prestigious "double-elephant folio," captures the parrot’s radiant green feathers, fiery red forehead, and vivid yellow accents as it clings to a branch with a cluster of seeds, set against a clean, plain background that highlights its exuberant colours. Inspired by Audubon’s keen studies in America’s untamed regions, this print fuses scientific detail with artistic brilliance, offering a stunning piece for bird enthusiasts, art collectors, or devotees of 19th-century charm. Brighten your space with the enduring vibrancy of this magnificent artwork.

John James Audubon (1785–1851) was an American ornithologist, naturalist, and artist renowned for his breathtaking illustrations of North American birds. Born in Les Cayes, Saint-Domingue (now Haiti), to a French sea captain, Jean Audubon, and his mistress, Jeanne Rabin, he was raised in Nantes, France, before emigrating to the United States at age 18 to avoid conscription. Self-taught in art and science, Audubon roamed the American wilderness, sketching birds in their natural habitats with unmatched detail and vitality. His masterpiece, The Birds of America, published between 1827 and 1838, featured 435 life-sized, hand-coloured engravings that cemented his legacy. Despite early business failures and financial hardship, his passion for nature drove him to become a pioneer in wildlife illustration and conservation.
