Revel in the lush tranquillity of Ferns (1920), a mesmerising woodcut by Julie de Graag (1877–1927). Unveiled in this intricate piece, her masterful technique unfurls a cascade of fronds, each leaf etched with a precision that mirrors nature’s own design. De Graag’s harmonious blend of flowing lines and muted tones evoke a forest stillness, her artistry breathing life into the delicate sprawl of foliage. Ideal for a verdant retreat or a space of earthy calm, this work drapes its surroundings in a mantle of quiet splendour, whispering of hidden glades and timeless growth.

Julie de Graag (1877–1924) was a Dutch artist and printmaker known for her refined woodcuts and illustrations that bridged Art Nouveau and early modernist styles. Born in Gorinchem, Netherlands, to Johannes de Graag, an accountant, and Karoline Couwenberg, she moved with her family to The Hague as a child. There, she studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in the 1890s, training under J.J. Aarts and art critic H.P. Bremmer, who encouraged her to focus on woodblock printing. De Graag’s career flourished after she settled in Laren in 1904, where she developed a distinctive, stylized approach influenced by sculptor Joseph Mendes da Costa and painter Bart van der Leck. Her work, featuring bold lines and vibrant depictions of nature—flowers, animals, and village scenes—gained recognition until a devastating fire in 1908 destroyed much of her early output. She later taught drawing in Utrecht while battling fragile health.
