About the Artist
Taguchi Tamoki (active late 19th–early 20th century) was a Japanese woodblock print artist known for his elegant designs rooted in traditional ukiyo-e aesthetics. Born in a regional town, possibly in central Japan, he trained under local artisans before establishing himself in Kyoto, a hub of artistic innovation during the Meiji era. Tamoki gained recognition for his intricate patterns and nature-inspired motifs, often depicting seasonal flora and fauna with a refined, minimalist style. His works, including contributions to design books for textiles and decorative arts, reflected a blend of Edo-period techniques and emerging modern influences. Though less documented than contemporaries, his legacy endures through preserved prints admired by collectors today.
Artwork Description

Bring a touch of timeless serenity to your space with the Black Woodblock from the Yatsuo no Tsubaki collection, a captivating vintage Japanese print attributed to Taguchi Tomoki (circa 1860–1869). The delicate interplay of earthy greens and subtle yellow highlights Tomoki’s skill in transforming simple motifs into elegant, ornamental designs, a hallmark of his contribution to the Ukiyo-e tradition. With its clean lines and harmonious composition, this piece exudes a sense of calm and freedom, reminiscent of the coral and the ocean creatures. Ideal for a peaceful living area, a contemplative study, or a curated art nook, this striking print infuses your home with the refined charm of Japan’s artistic legacy, blending vintage allure with enduring sophistication.
