About the Artist
Tāmaki Makaurau-based (Auckland) artist Skye Kelly has a creative practice that spans painting, collage, ceramics, installation, theatre and teaching.
Skye uses art as a way to explore, challenge and stay critical of ideas and social norms that are widely accepted in our current society, and why so many of them are not beneficial to our well-being. She reflects on unrealistic beauty standards, mental health and what it's like to be part of the LGBTQIA+ community. The process is an integral part of her art practice and narratives weave through her work in often playful or humorous ways.

Artwork Description
Red splashes vividly across the monoprint, cutting through a dusky, textured backdrop. A broad, sweeping curve arcs from the center, echoed by a sharper crescent in the left corner, pulling the eye toward half-moon shapes and across the print’s expanse. Gestural layers of oil-based ink, bold hues, and scraped marks stir a sense of anticipation and boundless space. Subtle lines etch landscapes that anchor the piece, while a vibrant, egg-shaped sphere floats weightless, hinting at new horizons. This dynamic monoprint radiates an abstract vitality, perfectly accentuating any contemporary space.
