Kyra Rousselle is a predominantly self taught Artist from Waitakere, West Auckland. She grew up in Whanganui a Tara/ Wellington and moved to Tamaki Makaurau in 1992 to complete her Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies and Art History.

Kyra's work deals with themes of identity through relationships with people and environment /nature. She uses her day job as a Character Makeup Artist in the TV and film industry ( since 2007) as a source of inspiration. 

Her technique involves layering paint and glazes so other media such as drawing can be introduced, adding complexities to a simple foundation for a delicate but impactful effect. She often uses colour in an harmonious way, similar way to how she uses colour stories whilst working with makeup. 

Kyra's painting practice has always been essential to her wellbeing. A recent surprise Autism diagnosis has brought light to her 'Why' and helped to break down the self imposed rules and confines previously followed in her work. This is the first time Kyra has released prints of her work making owning a piece achievable to everyone.
