THE ARTIST
Hailing from South Africa, Lucia Laubscher is a versatile artist currently residing in Auckland, NZ. Self-taught, she is a creative thinker and arts practitioner of over 20 years.
Lucia's work is diverse - encompassing large-scale murals to smaller canvases, photography and digital art. Her murals can be found in and around community areas - including a design wrap for one of Auckland's transport trains, promoting safety.
Lucia loves learning new skills and experimenting with different mediums. She loves to expand her own creative processes and endeavours and continually incorporates them into her arts practice.
Her most popular creations are imbued with symbolic narratives, reflecting her inherent talent for storytelling. Drawing inspiration from her environment, whether the local community, or natural vistas, Lucia crafts vibrant and colourful artworks that blend her African heritage with the diverse cultural influences of Aotearoa, seamlessly merging patterns and motifs from indigenous cultures with native flora and fauna. Her artistic mission revolves around fostering cultural connections, focusing on shared human experiences over differences.
When Lucia is not immersed in her art, she enjoys being a wife and mum, raising four daughters, savouring a glass of wine, preparing delectable meals for her dear ones, or getting lost in the pages of captivating literature.
