Philip has a lifelong passion for New Zealand landscape art. 

He was raised on a farm in the foothills of Mount Hutt in Canterbury. As a teenager he was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend several summer art schools in Kurow. Here he learnt the basics of drawing and oil painting under the tutelage of some of the leading NZ artists of the time. 

Phil studied Civil Engineering at the University of Canterbury and then spent several years involved in safaris in Africa. Philip was also involved with an African art and craft import and retail business and then in the construction industry. 

Upon returning to NZ, he spent a year studying painting, printmaking and sculpture at the Auckland Society of Arts at their Ponsonby studio.

He is based in Auckland and now devotes his time to creating art.
