Created in Katie’s unique and intricate style, using Fineline and alcohol markers, this piece is from her ‘Fragmented Musing Series’: art created from curiosity around the interdependency of technology, environment and society. Made in NZ with love.

Based in Hamilton, Katie has a design background with 25 years of experience. She ran her own graphic design business and was a sturdy force in the industry until two years ago when she was diagnosed with Severe ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). Her art practice has become an ongoing form of therapy, playing a significant role in her recovery efforts. Art emerges from deep within her mind to express her personal experiences and interpretations of the world. Much of her art explores her journey with ME/CFS, including her reflections and insights. Katie is captivated by the complex nature of life amidst the chaos of the world. Her artistic style features an underlying technical structure set within an unstructured environment, illustrating the intricacies of technology, nature, society, and the cellular level of existence. Katie feels that colour alone does not adequately convey the complexity of her thoughts. Therefore, she employs fine-line ink shapes and patterns to express the multitude of elements that contribute to any theme or idea. Despite having a constant flow of artistic ideas, it requires significant discipline to slow down and dedicate time to creating her intricate pieces. This process of focusing on her art provides her with substantial therapeutic benefits and brings her great joy and purpose.  A highlight of Katie’s career was being selected as a winner in the 38th Chelsea International Fine Art Competition. Her work was exhibited at Agora Gallery, New York, with one of her pieces being snapped up by a collector within hours of the opening. Katie's art helps her establish structure and understanding amid the uncertainty surrounding her health and the influences of the environment. Although she is currently stable, she is optimistic about her recovery over time.
